Dave Donovan joined the Friends of the Library in 1999 and immediately took on the job of treasurer, serving in that role until 2022. Donovan announced his retirement at the Friends of the Library board meeting June 12, 2024.
Dave worked at the group’s seasonal Book Sales each of his 35 years with the Friends, “sitting at the front table in the lobby, greeting book sale customers with a smile and sending them in to shop,” said his wife, Judy Donovan, current co-president of the Friends of the Library. “Among the many service organizations Dave has belonged to, he enjoyed the Friends of the Library so very much.”
Dorothy DuSold, current board member emeritus and one of the founders of the Friends of the Library along with her late husband, Richard DuSold, said, “We have known and worked with Dave for about 30 years. In those days [when he first took on the job], we had two wish lists a year [to fulfill from library staff] and faced such issues as the Library renovation and changes in the staff. Dave handled it all with grace and good humor. Thank you, Dave!”
Donovan said, “I hope that the organization, through our many contributions, has helped Park Ridge citizens come to the Library and read more and more.”
Donovan received the Library Award, which recognizes individuals and groups that have performed extraordinary service to the Library, in 2011.
About the Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Park Ridge Library is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, dedicated to the support of the Library. Through an annual membership drive and several large book sales, the Friends raise money for special programs, collections, and services that enhance the Library and benefit the community. Each year the Friends contribute more than $15,000 to the Library.
Funds raised benefit several areas of the Library, including: prizes for seasonal reading clubs; the purchase of licenses for feature films shown free throughout the year; funds for events like the Book Club Mixers; special performances such as this summer’s Justin Roberts concert; and interactive items like the activities and other toys you’ll find in the Children’s Department calming space.
