Every month is busy in the Library, but May is when our Youth Services staff boost their outreach efforts by bringing the Library to different grade levels and classrooms around Park Ridge. From late April through early June, Park Ridge Librarians Catherine, Maddie and Liz visited nearly 6,700 preschoolers, grade schoolers and middle schoolers to get them excited about Summer Reading.
“I visit all eight elementary schools,” said Elementary School Services Coordinator Catherine, who presented 66 times to different grade levels and classrooms around the district this spring. “I really enjoy visiting our schools and meeting kids and their families. It is so endearing to see their excitement when they participate in our reading programs, share what they are currently reading, and watch them grow into lifelong readers.”
High School Services Coordinator Maddie visited three middle schools while a fourth school came into the Library to get a tour of the building and a presentation on Summer Reading.
“I love getting to see the students where they’re at and telling them all about what the library has to offer,” she said.
Preschool Services Coordinator Liz visited 12 preschools throughout this school year, and presented the Summer Reading-themed storytime to approximately 1050 preschoolers and teachers.
“I enjoy making connections with teachers and watching the preschoolers get excited about the library and the stories I’m sharing,” Liz said. “The hiding game is a favorite activity that the preschoolers remember and we play on every visit. And of course, I love when the preschoolers visit the library and say hello!”
